Why ToRecall
Remember what matters in your life
To recall means to bring something back to mind. That is what we wanted ToRecall to help with: the things that are easy to forget and useful to find again years later.

The problem
We were sure we would remember
At the time, the answers seem obvious. A few years later, they often are not.
Again and again we wanted to know things we had once known and never written down anywhere we could find them.
When did we renovate the bathroom? Which tyres did I buy last time? Which year did we go to China with the children? When was the dog last vaccinated?
A better place for life’s details
Not everything belongs in a diary
We did not want another diary or photo album. Most of what we wanted to remember needed no story around it. Sometimes one line is enough: a date, a fact, a receipt or a photo.
ToRecall gives those everyday details a home, so you can find them again when it matters.

Not a diary. A record you can search.
ToRecall keeps a structured history, with the details that are easy to forget and useful later. Every event has a date, a cost and the facts that matter, so one search finds it years from now.
Dates and timelines Costs and values Documents and photos
Not a photo album. Photos with a purpose.
A photo in ToRecall is the receipt, the meter reading or the new kitchen, kept with the event it belongs to. It is there to show and explain what happened, not to hold every picture you take.

Where the name came from
The idea goes back to 2015. We kept noticing how many places there were to keep information: notes, folders, photos, email, a handful of apps. None of them let us keep everything in one place with an overview, and none made it quick to get a particular fact back out.
That was when we started talking about the word recall. Depending on the context it means to remember, to recollect, or to call something back.
Recall on its own was not quite right, so we played with the word for a while and ended up with ToRecall.
We worked on it for about half a year. We bought the domain, built small prototypes and wrote a great deal of documentation. Then it rested for years. Recently we took it out again, dusted it off and decided to carry it through. The time felt right.

A timeline for the things in your life
Whatever it is, the question is usually the same: what happened, and when?
And everything else
Those are where most people start, not the limit. Anything with a history can have a timeline of its own:
The aquarium The boat The summer house Dinners with friends Films you have seen at the cinema Churches you have visited The children’s milestones
Give it a name and record what happens to it, the same way as everything else.
